A celebration of cod in all its forms

As most will tell, cod is omnipresent in Portuguese cuisine. But still few places are as devoted to this ingredient as Casa do Bacalhau.

Open since 2000 in the Beato neighbourhood, Casa do Bacalhau is a gastronomic find set in the former stables of the historic palace of the Dukes of Lafões. And, as one can tell by its name, this restaurant features salted cod in almost every dish on the menu, save for dessert.

The venue
A space immersed in history, in the former stables of the Palácio do Duque de Lafões. It’s well worth a visit just to gaze upon the original 18th-century vaulted ceiling—a masterpiece of architectural heritage.

Notes
Discover an exquisite selection of wines. Savour a glass on-site and you can also purchase bottles to enjoy at a later date.

The decor pays homage to the building’s rich history, offering a cozy and comfortable dining space. The rustic charm of the old stables, with their exposed stone walls and vaulted ceilings, creates an inviting and authentic atmosphere. The menu is a celebration of cod in all its forms.

From classics like Bacalhau à Brás and Bacalhau à Zé do Pipo to more exotic creations like Moqueca de Bacalhau e Camarão, the chefs at Casa do Bacalhau explore the versatility of this much-loved fish with mastery and creativity.

And if, by some chance, one of your fellow diners doesn’t fancy the ubiquitous cod, other tasty options await on the menu, such as Octopus with Sweet Potato from Ajezur, Pork Tenderloin with Mushroom Risotto or delicious veggie-friendly dishes.
